Previewing FAQs

Q1

What’s Online Preview?

Classroom Video operates an Online Preview service on our website. Online Preview offers access to the first few minutes of nearly all programs we distribute. A number of more recent titles can be screened in their entirety on our website. There are numerous advantages to previewing online:

  • Firm order discount. If you preview online and decide to purchase that program that is classed as a “firm order”, which automatically attracts a discount.
  • No postage or packing costs returning unsuitable programs.
  • Less paperwork.
  • Preview at your leisure – no need to make a decision within 14 days.
  • You can get colleagues’ views by directing them to the Classroom Video website to preview. No need to hand or send them a physical copy.
  • No chance of the program being damaged or lost in transit.
  • It’s an easily accessible, low maintenance and user-friendly way of previewing programs.

Ordering via Online Preview is for firm sale. You will be sent an invoice with the program. If Online Preview isn’t suitable for you, please continue to order previews under the tried and trusted system we’ve operated for over 20 years.

Q2

What is Classroom Video’s preview policy?

Classroom Video offers programs on a 14-day no obligation preview basis. This means you can assess our programs over a two week period in order to decide whether to purchase the program for your institution. We do not charge you for this service. However, it is your responsibility to ensure programs you dont require are returned to us in a resalable condition within the agreed preview timeframe. Customers are liable for the cost of return postal charges. Preview times can be extended if your workload is heavy - please contact our customer service department. Programs sent out for preview are for professional assessment purposes only. They may not be screened to a class or any other audience unless they have been purchased. All programs remain the property of Classroom Video until paid for in full.

Refer our Terms & Conditions on the back of the Approval Notice.

Q3

What’s the difference between an Invoice and Preview Advice?

When a customer firm orders a program, an Invoice will be sent with the goods. When a customer previews a program a Preview Advice will be sent with the goods - this is not an invoice. The Preview Advice is effectively a delivery note which also outlines the terms and conditions of the preview and what to do next. Clear instructions as to the next stage in the process appear on the Preview Advice along with any specific comments. The preview period for assessment of our programs is 14 days from receipt by the customer - not dispatch from our warehouse. After previewing the programs the customer should contact Classroom Video (via any method), quoting the Preview Advice number and stating which programs will be kept and which programs – if any – will be returned. Classroom Video will raise an Invoice for the programs being retained by the customer. If you need to extend the preview period please don’t hesitate to contact us. Once 14 days preview time has elapsed and we have not heard from a customer as to the status of their preview, the Preview Advice will transfer to our invoicing system and an Invoice will be raised.

Q4

Can I extend the preview period?

We understand that many of our customers are very busy, and 14 days isn’t always enough time to preview and properly assess our resources. Please contact our friendly customer service team to request an extension. Reasonable requests will never be turned down! It will speed things up if you can quote your Preview Advice number when you phone or email us.

Q5

What technical considerations do I need to think about with Online Preview?

There are usually two versions available for each program, one suitable for viewing over a slow (modem) connection to the internet, and the other requiring a fast/broadband (satellite, cable, ADSL, etc) connection. The fast version is better quality.

Q6

How do I find the online preview for a program?

The majority of our programs have a streaming file on our website allowing you to assess the program online without having to purchase or preview a DVD or tape. For details on Online Preview click here. If a streaming file is available you will find the link to the Preview within the program entry on the website.

Clickview FAQs

Q1

What is ClickView?

ClickView is a sister company to Classroom Video and combines two products - innovative digital video delivery software and a digital video library containing videos and teaching resources from Classroom Video, Classroom Video and other leading Australian content providers. ClickView also offers you a centralised storage and control point to manage your digital videos and make them available anywhere there is a computer. Visit www.clickview.com.au to find out more.

Q2

Which Classroom Video programs are in, or will go into, the ClickView digital video library?

Currently all curriculum-based programs produced by Classroom Video for the secondary schools and Tafe markets are included in the ClickView library. Each term all new Classroom Video-produced releases suitable for secondary schools and Tafes will be added into the ClickView library. This equates to around 12-15 new Classroom Video releases per term. Other content providers’ new titles are also added to the library regularly. Every term ClickView subscribers receive an update of new releases directly from ClickView. The ClickView digital video library does not contain programs that Classroom Video has acquired rights to from other producers. However Classroom Video does have the digital rights to many of these programs and they can be bought directly from Classroom Video and added to the ClickView library. Please contact Classroom Video directly about which programs are available to purchase as a digital file.

Q3

How much does ClickView cost?

The ClickView software and content library are available directly from ClickView and are licensed on an annual basis. You don’t buy the software or the content outright. Pricing is worked out on a per student basis for each school or Tafe. Including content supplied by other producers the library now contains well over 1000 programs, representing fantastic value on a per student basis. Please contact ClickView directly to find out more or arrange an appointment with a ClickView consultant.

Q4

How do I know if a program available from Classroom Video is in the ClickView library?

The secondary schools and Tafe programs that Classroom Video produces will all be in the ClickView library. Future Classroom Video productions for secondary schools and Tafes will be added to the library shortly after release from Classroom Video. When you look through a Classroom Video catalogue, flyer or on the Classroom Video website you can see whether the program is available in the library, or to purchase as a separate digital file that can be added to the ClickView library or whether it’s not available in ClickView at all. Examples:-

New Food Trends
VHS DVD ClickView (L) – means it’s available to purchase in VHS or DVD and is included in the ClickView library.

Fungi
DVD – means it’s available to purchase in the DVD format only.

Getting That Job
VHS DVD – means we only have rights to sell a VHS or DVD copy.
If in any doubt please contact Classroom Video customer service.

New Programs. What do I do?

Q1

I’ve got an idea for a program. What do I do?

We’d be interested to hear from you. Please contact Simon Garner. He’ll want to hear about your idea, why there is a need for a program on that topic, and how it would meet the audience’s needs.

I’m a producer.

Q1

I’m a producer and would like to speak with Classroom Video about distributing my program(s). What do I do?

Classroom Video is always keen to hear from producers from within Australia and worldwide who are looking for distribution opportunities within our areas of expertise. We have an extensive catalogue of titles across the following areas: Secondary (High) Schools, TAFEs and Colleges, Universities, Primary Schools, Employment Agencies, Training Organisations, Libraries and Healthcare organisations. Please contact our Acquisitions Manager about what to do next.

Teachers Notes.

Q1

How do I find the Teacher Notes for programs?

All the programs we produce have accompanying Teachers Notes. The majority (but not all) of programs we acquire from other producers around the world also have Teacher Notes. Mindful of the environment and the raggedy state that some notes get into while being diverted around the Australia Post system we’ve stopped printing Teacher Notes. However where Teacher Notes exist they can be found on our website as a link within the program entry.

Q2

How do I read the Teacher Notes?

All Teachers Notes are in PDF format. To download Adobe Acrobat Reader click here.

Consultants

Q1

What is a Classroom Video consultant?

Whenever Classroom Video makes a program we engage the services of a consultant - a leading professional working or teaching in the subject area the program focuses on. We’re filmmakers and distributors. Many of our key personnel have teaching backgrounds, but we’re not experts in every field! So we hire experts on a consultancy basis to ensure our programs are fully researched, totally up-to-date, properly referenced, pertinent and spot-on for our intended market. The consultant provides input at key stages in the program development process. Consultants receive a credit on the finished program.

Copyright

Q1

What’s the situation with copyright for programs distributed by Classroom Video?

Classroom Video either owns the copyright or is the authorised distributor of all programs available from us. If we are not the copyright-owner and are distributing the program on behalf of another producer we are representing, and will uphold, their rights. It is unlawful to copy all or part of any program we distribute in any form or transmit it in any format unless written permission has been obtained from us.

Australian Copyright Laws prescribe severe penalties of up to $60,500 for individuals and $302,500 for institutions and corporations. That’s right: it’s not only the institution or company that will get fined, but the individual within that institution or company who instructed and/or actioned the illegal copying. Legal action will be taken against any individual or institution who infringes our copyright or that of producers who have licensed programs to us.

Please be aware that copyright regulations regarding format shifting have recently been amended. Please visit www.copyright.org.au for full details.

For a PDF copy of Classroom Video’s copyright information sheet please click here.

The Australian Copyright Council has a number of detailed and easy-to-understand information sheets on a wide range of copyright issues. Visit their website at www.copyright.org.au. Refer Copyright on this website.

Q2

Can I make copies of a program I have purchased?

No. You are breaking copyright law if you make-up a ‘back-up’ copy, or if you make copies for other people to assess – even if you destroy them afterwards. Only in exceptional circumstances are you allowed to change formats of a program you have purchased – visit the Australian Copyright Council website – which outlines what is permissible. Essentially you can only make a copy of a program if it is no longer commercially available – but you are advised to check the conditions that would allow this. Please see our copyright section above and/or visit the Australian Copyright Council website for more information and clarification. Refer Copyright on this website.
